Why I'm building this

A student named Shane once asked me, "Why do we need to do this assignment?" I had the usual answers ready: so you can learn, so you can get to college, so you can get a job. That day, none of them held up, even to me.

So I started asking his question myself. Why do we spend a year on work that gets thrown away in June? I'm a chemistry teacher with a PhD in science education, so I know both the classroom and the research. Students do their best work when it's real, when it matters to them and to the people around them. That kind of learning works. It's just brutally hard to pull off, so most teachers never get to.

That's the whole idea here: make schoolwork actually matter. Give students real problems, real people, and their own community, and take the hardest parts off the teacher's plate so any classroom can do it.

This is the platform I wish existed, so I started building it. If you have ideas for making it better, I want to hear them.
